• Lynx Express Delivery Network is trialling Brigade Group's latest reversing safety device, the RI-OS Backscan.
The Italian-designed system which is suitable for rigids or truck/trailer combinations comprises a pair of rear-mounted sensors and an electronic control box in the cab.
Obstacles detected 3.0m away in the sensor's vehiclewidth field produce a series of bleeps which quickens to a constant tone at 0.2m away.
The box on the dash has a range of LED lights (green/amber/red) plus a digital read-out indicating the distance, diminishing to 0.2m.
The system retails at £295 per vehicle and takes four man hours to fit.
