• Uncomfortable cab? Stop moaning, says former long-distance driver, Geoff Griffiths.
Ten years after his retirement, Geoff was given a 70th birthday treat: driving round an airfield in an Iveco Ford EuroTech 400E/34T.
West Herts Training, which answered the request from Geoff s daughter Annie to give her Dad a go in a modern vehicle, were impressed with his handling of the vehicle at Bovingdon airfield, near St. Alban's.
As for Geoff, he can hardly believe the home comforts enjoyed by today's drivers.
"It's a lot more comfortable and easier to control than the lorries I used to drive," he commented after his run, thanks to the power-assisted steering, brakes, clutch, gears and the more spacious, quieter cab.
