• The European Commission (EC) wants to cut truck journeys across the Alpine passes in Austria in a bid to cut pollution.
It wants to reduce the number of ecopoints (truck permits) available to each member state, because commercial traffic is running above a predetermined threshold based on assumed traffic growth.
Once this threshold is triggered, the EC is obliged to rec
ommend a cut in available ecopoints for member states; this also happened last year.
