• by Colin Barnett Problem: how do you recover a fully freighted artic without a mega-sized eight-wheeler which is too big for most other jobs? One solution is to use this ingenious piece of kit to split the load.
As pictured, the iveco-based rig is a fairly conventional 6x2 underlift wrecker which can scoop up the stricken tractive unit in the normal fashion. But back at Iveco dealer, Kerr and Smith's Glasgow base, the recovery kit can be removed in a matter of minutes, leaving a straightforward 4x2 tractor which can return to collect the stranded semi-trailer.
The 3.5m-wheelbase Iveco EuroTech is powered by a 350 Cursor 8 engine and carries a removable pod comprising a Dyson NRC Quick Swap underlift boom and a tag axle, with a lift capacity of 7.5 tonnes.
it features an Ecotek air management system. Emergency warning beacons and strobe lights are housed in the cab roof. When not being used for recovery this versatile unit can be used for deliveries of customers trucks and semitrailer, or as a demonstration vehicle.
