WEST WALES haulier and Volvo dealer Manse] Davies has begun to operate two novel dual-purpose tri-axle semi-trailers.
Both the Seadyke chassis and aluminium tipping bodies, with Edbro 1)S18 rams, were supplied by the Wilcox group of Peterborough. Seadyke has been a Wilcox subsidiary since 1980, The trailers are used to Carry coils of Aludip (thin sheet steel coated with aluminium) from South Wales to Northern England and Scotland from where it is distributed to washing machine and vehicle exhaust makers. The coils are carried in wells lined with hardwood that run longitudinally along the centres of the floors of the stepframe trailers. Each coil can weigh up to 10 tonnes.
On return trips, the trailers carry 23-tonne payloads of coal or grain. They are coupled to F10 tractive units.
The trailers' Rubery OwenRockwell bogies have tapered leaf springs on the two rearmost axles and RO-R Neway air suspension on the lifting front axles.
These are the first dual purpose, tipping semi-trailers of this type to be built by Wilcox.
