TRANSPORT Minister David Mitchell is to be asked again to introduce tougher operator licensing rules for dangerous goods carriers.
The Road I laulage Association's tanker group chairman, Jim Paton, revealed this week at a seminar in Maidstone when he said the time is ripe CO press the Department of Transport on the matter.
According to Paton, Health and Safety Executive roadside checks have revealed that many tankers are being operated contrary to the regulations.
Earlier RHA requests for a special 0-licence for tanker operators have been turned down, but Paton says it is still concerned by the number of "fringe" operators being allowed to operate because of the low level of law enforcement.
