Brief Details of a Useful New Service Inaugurated by an Important Passenger-transport Undertaking.
AtdS from the beginning of this month. the United Automobile Services, ., has been operating a new bus service from Wensleydale (Hawes, Aysgarth, Bainbridge, Leyburn) to Richmond, connecting with its services from the latter centre to Darlington. For t many years past the chief outlet from Wensleydale has been down the dale to Northallerton and thence by railway, but latterly motorbus proprietors have followed this line by instituting a similar service from Northallerton up
the dale. '
It was found, however, that Wensleydale people often desired to travel' by the quickest method direct to the larger centres of population, such as Darling c46 ton, and this fact having been fully appreciated by the United Automobile services, Ltd., the company is now to rim through buses from Wensleydale to Richmond and Darlington. From the point of view of towndwellers in Durham and North Yorkshire the new service will give direct access to some of the most beautiful dale scenery in Yorkshire. The route from Richmond proceeds for the first few miles through the beautiful area of Swaledale and cuts across the moors to Leyburn, from which place it runs through Wetaeydale, passing by the famous Aysgarth Falls and through many charming holiday and picnic centres.
Excursion fares will prevail during the summer from all over the county of Durham and North Yorkshire to places along the dale, the ordinary return fares from 'Darlington being as follow :— Leyburn, 3s. 4d.; Bainbridge, 5s. 3d.; Aysgarth, 45. 6d.; Hawes, 5s. 11:kl. Buses leave Darlington for Wensleydale at scheduled times and the service is augmented on Mondays and Saturdays. On Sundays four departures are made from Darlington to serve the Wensleydale area.
