The Metropolitan and Southeast area was the worst hit, losing 282 members, ending 1981 with a total of 1,771.
The Devon and Cornwall area suffered least, with a reduction in membership of only 23, bring ing the total down to 369.
East Midland's membership went from 1,141 to 1,040, while Eastern was down from 1,061 to 988. Hull's loss was 46, taking the total down to 253. The Leeds area fell from 634 to 567.
The Northern area fell from 854 to 771, while the Northwestern took a heavier drop of 246 members, to 2,055. The Scottish area went from 989 to 923, and Sheffield lost 40 members, going from 402 to 362. South Wales went from 669 to 595 and the Southern area from 838 to 751. West Midlands fell from 1,579 to 1,467; the Western area from 878 to 793.
