• JS Cook & Son has hit out at the level of apathy in the road transport industry after lack of support scuppered its plan to block Dover to all non-UK and Irish vehicles.
The company hoped to set up a blockade in April to protest about the poor handling of compensation claims following the recent disruption in France and Greece. It also wanted to take action over the latest driving bans and restrictions on the Continent.
However, in the event fewer than 50 sub-contractors and other hauliers were willing to pledge support for the Dover blockade, despite extensive media coverage.
The Wellingborough firm was looking for support from 150-200 hauliers.
