THE FREIGHT TRANSPORT Association has launched its Delivering London manifesto for freight operators in London.
In it the VIA identifies issues facing London operators and their customers, such as the congestion charge,the LEZ and delivery curfews; it offers action points to overcome them.
Gordon Telling, the ETA's head of policy for London, says: -London freight operators are reeling from the congestion charge, penalty charge notices (PCNs), bus lanes, red routes and the London I orry Control Scheme, with the London lowemission zone being added in the spring, 'Thc ETA's manifesto throws down the gauntlet to Transport for London, London councils and the London boroughs to harness the innovation and commitment of industry to REX ,=EAT improve road safety, reduce congestion and minimise the carbon footprint of London's economy."

Regarding the congestion charge, the manifesto says: "We believe that the fleet threshold should be reduced further, so that even the smallest operators can benefit."And on the subject of delivery times it says: "The lorry ban should he relaxed, allowing modern, quieter, cleaner lorries to deliver at night and cut congestion and pollution... the FTA is campaigning for additional loading and unloading capacity and is working with TfL, as part of the London Freight Plan, to create properly defined guidance."
