the design of the Chubb Fire Pacesetter fire engine, I was flattered to see in your article last week on the Fire '87 exhibition in Bristol how closely RenoIds Boughton had copied the de sign with their new 'B' type.
However, I was then surprised to read that you called it 'innovative' when one considers that the Pacesetter featured a low mounted cab, low centre of gravity, an exceptionally wide bus-type nearside door but was launched in 1975!
In fact with its front mounted water pump and rear mounted engine the specification of the Pacesetter was probably more impressive than that of the Boughton '13' Type.
Just goes to prove that there is nothing new in vehicle design.
