• Three people have been arrested following last month's bungled attack on a convoy of livestock lorries which left a truck driver in critical condition in hospital after he was hit by a rock.
Police believe animal rights protestors waiting on a bridge above the A2 mistakenly targeted Steven Granger of Dover-based Geoff Hart Transport as he was driving his unladen truck towards London between Whitfield and the Duke of York Roundabout in Kent. It is believed the protestors thought Granger was part of a livestock convoy. This group was actually travelling towards Dover on the opposite carriageway under police escort.
The front of Granger's cab was destroyed in the attack and he was rushed to the intensive care unit of Haywards Heath Hospital in Sussex.
Kent police say two women and a man have been questioned about the attack and baiied until 25 November. A police spokeswoman said that Granger is now recovering slowly at home. n See feature, page 48.
