1136 *A driver who took his untaxed vehicle home after it failed its annual test cost his employers more than 21,000. Spacemaker Plant, of Neath, pleaded guilty ' . to using the vehicle without tax when the company appeared before Llanelli magistrates. It was fined 2250 and ordered to pay 2743 back duty with 230 costs. Defending, Eurfyl Ambrose told the magistrates the company had thought that it had got itself a bargain when it picked the vehicle up cheaply from the liquidator of another company. However, it took several months work to make the vehicle roadworthy and the company had not realised that it would have to tax it for the period it was off the road. When the vehicle was taken to the test centre at Arnmanford it was being driven by a man from Garnant who was not returning to the company's yard that day, said Ambrose. It failed the test and when he drove it back from his home the following day the vehicle was stopped. If it had been taken straight back to the yard from the test station everything would have been legal.
