Northside in 1981, rising from technician to servIce manager, before joining the sales side. He rose to dealer principal and spent 12 months working in the car division of Northside's parent company, Pendragon. In 1994 he joined Soania dealership Union Trucks in the North-East as managing director, before moving to Scanlink as MD in 1998. In 2002 he became aftersales director for Scalia (Great Britain) at Milton Keynes.
Ward rejoined Northside Truck & Van as MD in 2005 following its purchase by SAH Ltd from Pendragon, along with Fergus Leitch (chairman) and James Hemingway (finance director).
His service background gives him an aftersales bias. If you give the service to the customer who buys the trucks, that is where the profit is made," he says. 'Aftersales is more complex to deliver than sales, and is far more challenging."
Ward has overseen an Eem investment programme, which included £4.6m on a new site at Doncaster, £1m in Leeds, £500,000 in Bradford, £250,000 into Sheffield and £500,000 in its parts business.
