• Tata will launch a carderived pickup and van at the NEC motorshow in October. The Indian-built vehicles have a 2.0-litre 68hp (50kW) naturally aspirated diesel engine driving a live rear axle through a fivespeed gearbox.
The one tonne payload pickup with a 1.88x1.41m load bed will cost under £7,000 (exVAT). It has power-assisted steering, independent front suspension, leaf-sprung rear axle, a tilt adjustable steering column, cloth trim and a radio cassette.
The coil springs at the rear limit the van's payload to 0.5 tonne. It will cost about E13,500 (ex-VAT).
Both vehicles will have a three-year/60,000-mile warranty with six-year anti-perforation cover. For the first year the warranty includes roadside recovery assistance. Distribution will be through up to 80 dealers, most of which will currently hold the Lada franchise.
