• West Lancashire haulier Ian Booth was fined £1,800 for 18 offences of failing to park vehic es at his authorised operating centre, and was then called to disciplinary proceedings before North Western LA Martin Albu.
Booth, trading as Allan Booth, of Burscough Industrial Estate, Burscough, near Ormskirk, holds a licence for 12 vehicles and 30 trailers.
He said the 18 offences occurred over three months. He did not liaise with the police as three or four vehicles were initially parked where they were at the request of the police, to block in a vehicle that had been used in a robbery This set a precedent, he said. It had gone on for some months as nobody came to collect the van concerned. Three or four vehicles were parked across the entrance to block the van in without it being obvious what they were doing. He had not wanted it to be obvious, as they had suffered from vandalism in the past.
Taking no action in the circumstances, Albu said Booth must understand that he could not park his vehicles on the public highway and must keep them at the authorised operating centre.
