Mercifully this 1914 Dennis fire engine is no longer called upon to go to blazes. Instead, it happily entered the Historic Commercial Vehicles Society's 26th Trans-Pennine run from Leigh to Harrogate and had no trouble completing the demanding route through Rochdale, Halifax and Bradford. It even sailed past Harry Ramsden's fish and chip eatery at Guisely Cross without stopping. I am told the crew returned later to sample a large penny-worth of cod, chips, mushy peas and pickled onion, covered head to toe in curry sauce.That must have put the Fire out quite nicely.
