FREIGHT VEHICLES using the port of Dover increased by 13 per cent during the first two months of 1983 compared with 1982.
A total of 101,357 units (tractive unit and trailer count as two units) passed through Dover compared with 89,828.
During February 1983, 50,829 units passed through the port compared with 46,365 — a rise of 9.5 per cent.
Other ro-ro freight for the first two months of 1983 amounted to 18,520 units, a drop of 1 per cent on the previous year. For February, it dropped eight per cent to 8,845 units.
Tonnes of cargo handled came to 1.3m tonnes for the first two months of 1983, a seven per cent rise on the previous year. There was an increase of one per cent to 0.64m tonnes in February.
