The Highways Committee of the Durham County Council have adopted the following principles in considering applications for permission to rim services of niotor omnibuses in the administrative county :— 1. That a consent to run shall only apply to a main road, and if file route applied for runs for part of its distance over a district road the consent with respect to the main road shall not apply until the applicant has also obtained the
c18 consent of the authority responsible for the maintenann) of the district road, and the consent so far as the main road is concerned is not in any.wise-to prejudice the district council with respect to the consent for the district road.
2. That no consent be given for a new service on a main road where an efficient service is now in operation. 3That any coAsent to run on a main road is given on the distinct understanding that such consent shall not in any wise prejudice the county council should tnev eventually deem it necessary to apply to the Ministry of Transport to niche an Order that such road is to be prohibited to this class of traffic entirely, or until such times as it has been adapted to carry such traffic, and that such permission shall not prejudice the county council in applying to the Ministry of Transport to impose a contribution on such buses towards the cost of adapting such roads.
