At the request of the Corporation, the Walsall Tramways Committee has prepared a statement with regard to the financial result of the bus services for the quarter ended June 30th. The statement shows that considerable alterations Average per bus mile
and curtailments of motor services have been made since -March, resulting in a reduction in the weekly mileage by 2.890. Reductions of expenses have also been effected as follow :—
(a) An improvement has been obtained in the petrol consumption per bus4inile run, which it is hoped to maintain and possibly improve upon. .„ (b) The employees' wages are now regulated at "cost of living" index figures, and a reduction is imminent. There is also a posaibility of a 'further reduction in the price, paid for petrol.
During the quarter there was the coal staike, which, together with the general trade depression, very adversely affected the motor services and rendeted it difficult to judge 'withacciaracy at the present •time the :probable results of alterations and curtailments of the motor services under normal conditions. The Committee, therefore. proposes to watch closelyathe results of the services as modified, and will report again for the period ending September 30th.
