On the ground that to assent to the proposal would be unjust to private bus proprietors, the Cardiff Rural Council has declined to grant the Cardiff City Council sanction for a Cardiff-WenvoeBarry bus service. It was pointed out that several proprietors had asked. for permission to run on this route and bad been refused.
The basis of refusals had been the 828
narrowness of the road at Wenvoe, and a conference of local authorities, at which the Cardiff City Council was represented, had confirmed the decision of the rural district council to refuse applications on this ground. The city council could not, therefore, reasonably expect licences to he granted.
It was added that the Wenvoe road was to be widened and that the rural district council would then be prepared to reconsider all the applications for permission to run on this route. • The Cardiff City Council intimated its intention to operate a long-distance service from Cardiff to Cowbridge and on to Bridgend, and asked for licences for the Cowbridge route. This application was granted, the usefulness of the projected service being admitted.
