A FEATURE of the latest Burgess air t cleaner, made by Burgess Products Co., Barwell, Leicester, is that the filter element is of the viscous coated-maze type. Cellulose fibre absorbs oil and will hold from 7 to 12 times as much , fluid aswil an equal volume of metallic filament, in which the oil is retained ' only by adhesion to the surface.
A further advantage of the cellulose fibre is that it is covered with fine hairlike fibrils, which retain the dust cake, once it is formed. As the dust cake builds up, oil is drawn from the fibre. which acts as a reservoir, so that the cake is firmly bonded with viscous oil and is held in place, no surplus -dust being drawn into the engine. • The filter element is cleaned in the usual way and replacement cartridges are obtainable at low cost.
