A NEW Goodyear tyre designed specifically for trailers serving the construction industry is said to give 15% better tread life than its predecessor.
Goodyear’s Omnitrac mixed service tyres are aimed at vehicles such as tippers that work both onand off-road. The second-generation Omnitrac tyres in steerand drive-axle patterns (MSS II and MSD II) were introduced in 2010: now the range has been extended to include a mixed-service trailer tyre, MST II. It is available now as a 385/65 R22.5, with a 445/65 R22.5 due in November. The MST II incorporates damage-resistant compound, deeper tread depth and a tread pattern featuring a zigzag central grove and off-set blocks on the edges, all designed to improve off-road grip. Two inservice trials with two tippingtrailer operators found the new tyres gave 15% and 13% better tread wear respectively than the predecessor, the Omnitrac MST.
The downside of this tread specification with extra grip is rolling resistance.
