• Braking equipment manufacturer Midland Grau has carried out what it believes is the first retrofit of an anti-lock braking system on an air-over hydraulic braked middleweight rigid. Midland Grau has developed the system on a Hino FG177 destined for Brunei Shell, fitting the wheel exciters and in-cab electronic control module at its Redditch plant and testing the vehicle's ABS performance at its Fenn End proving ground. The DGX air/hydraulic system is 4S/3M— having four sensors and three modulators, offering select low on the front axle and fully independent wheel operation on the rear axle in line with Brunei Shell's needs.
According to Midland Grau: "We've been working with Hino and they're very pleased."
Midland Grau says it wants to expand its ABS business to include more original equipment fitting on truck chassis; currently 85-90% of its ABS systems are sold for fitting on trailers.
