• by Cohn Barnett The first factory-built Scania heavy haulage tractors in the UK have gone into service with McIntosh Heavy Logistics of Westhill, Aberdeenshire.
The two R144 GB8x4NZs run at up 150 tonnes GCW under STGO Category 3. They are powered by Scania's 14-litre 460hp V8 engine driving through a Scania GRS900R box with 12 main gears, two crawlers and an integrated hydraulic retarder. McIntosh now runs eight Scanias with a fleet of 10 Nooteboom steering low-loader trailers, used mainly to carry oil industry and earth-moving equipment.
