HAMPSHIRE-BASED Lambert Brothers Haulage says it has had a busy end to the year after taking on significant new contracts, although it remains apprehensive about trading next year.
MD Clive Watkins (right) says pressure from customers on prices remains one of the biggest factors affecting its profit and shows no signs of abating. His comments follow publication of the company's financial results for the year ending 31 May 2010.
Although turnover remained static, at £9.4m, pre-tax profit increased almost fourfold to 1393.000 and retained profit increased to 1287000, from £80,000 in 2009.
Watkins says it has taken on more staff and vehicles since May to service its new contracts. "We do it by the fact that we have invested in
the business," he explains. "We buy our own vehicles, we maintain our trucks so there's minimum downtime. We have also invested in technology, like tracking, and employ good staff.
"We are a regional haulier, not a national one, but we have a good name for providing a reliable and excellent level of service. Our customers know we will be around next year.
