East Coast Transport (ET) had its licence revoked by North-Eastern Traffic Commissioner Tom Macartneā– ,, after vehicle examiner Scott Kirkley reported that the company's vehicles had been issued with one immediate and three delayed prohibitions. two of which were S-marked, showing serious maintenance problems.

ET director William Foster said he had thought one of the prohibited vehicles had been roadworthy as it had not been operated since it was tested. Traffic examiner Susan Barratt said East Coast lost its company status in November 2003 because of overdue accounts and Foster had ignored advice to apply for a licence as a sole trader.

When Barratt visited the company, Foster was unable to produce tachograph charts for the vehicle concerned or any contact details for the driver. She took sample charts for two vehicles and analysis revealed offences. including 655km unaccounted for. She had tried to contact Foster but without success.

In reply to the TC. Foster said he had put an advert in the newspaper and was waiting 21 days before Summary applying for a licence as a sole trader. Vallenbeck must have left the 0licence disc in the vehicle when Foster bought the vehicle from them. he claimed. He had not contacted Barratt because he was considering selling the business.
