If IL 1-1ARSH trading conditions endured by many operators last year failed to stop Leeds-based (1W Sissons and Sons boosting its profit margin to almost 11%.
The Sherburn-in-Elmet haulage contractor reported a pre-tax profit of 079,000 on a turnover of £6.3m for the year. to30September. This beat an already impressive result in 2004 as turnover rose by almost #:500.(XX).
Sissons runs 50 vehicles and 1(X) trailers and employs 65 people. Director Bryan Sissons says: "It's just hard work. We've diversified a lot, letting properties, industrial units and yard rental.We fluctuate...it depends on customers and the customer base."
He adds that introducing a fuelsurcharge escalator five years ago was"one of the best things we did.We didn't have to veorry about the price.
