AREADER of The Commercial Motor, Mr. R. Heggadon, Kigbeare, Okehampton, Devon, has invented and provisionally patented a wheel rim having one detachable flange, and it is shown in an accompanying drawing.
Its object is to make the removal and fitting of tyres easier by reducing the circumference of the base of the rim, yet to ensure their concentricity with the wheel and their freedom from creeping by making the outer parts of the base cone-shaped. The inventor claims that changing a tyre on this rim will be easier than changing a wheel under normal conditions, and stresses the advantage of carrying a spare tyre instead of a spare wheel. He makes no mention of the time occupied in inflating the tyre, nor does he describe the ring which holds the detachable flange in position.
He asks us to state that he will be pleased to hear from anyone interested in the development of this patent at home and abroad.
