May I as an operator of some vehicles make comment regarding the document "Training for the future"?
First, I would suggest the retention of the Road Transport Industry Training Board and its Motecs to provide and administer all training required by the road haulage industry.
Secondly, discontinue the levy/grant system in its present form. Thirdly, cease paying grant for training; and finally, in order to finance this training, I would suggest the levy be raised by increasing the road fund licence by, say, £2 on all heavy goods vehicles.
These proposals would ensure the facilities for training would be maintained for persons who require it and it would also ensure that the cost of training was shared equally within the industry.
