The Birmingham branch of Pickfords Heavy Haulage was called in to carry an unusual load the other day. The job was to move an auctioneer's cash office, built in 1853 and weighing 50 tons, to the Avoncroft Museum.
The practice usually is to take buildings apart and then rebuild them on site. But this time Pynford (Midlands) Ltd, underpinning contractor, was called in and this firm cast a
reinforced concrete bean. within the foot of the building.

The counting house was ir use until six years ago — anc will be used again, as a ticke office. The cost of this compli cated removal has been coverer by Fine Fare Ltd, whicltogether with the Victoria anc Albert Museum is financing it restoration.
