TAMPERING WITH the speed limiter in his vehicle and regularly speeding cost a St Helens driver 1415 in fines and costs when he appeared before the Ellesmere Port &Neston magistrates Michael Haynes pleaded guilty to four offences of interfering with the speed limiter in his truck by removing the fuse.
The court was told that last October a three-axled rigid belonging to Brakes Bros and driven by Haynes was seen on the M6 between Junctions 26 and 28 doing 95km/h. The vehicle was constantly in the middle lane and was easily overtaking other HGVs on the motorway.
Further investigations revealed that Haynes had regularly been driving at more than 90km/h; tachograph records in Haynes' name showed that he had exceeded %km/h on three other dates in October.
When interviewed, Ha ynes had admitted removing the fuse from the speed limiter so his vehicle could be driven at more than 90km/h. He had said he knew it was wrong to do so.
The magistrates fined Haynes 000 with £115 prosecution costs.
Summary
MORE TROUBLE TO COME The fines and costs are unlikely to be the only problem facing this driver as TCs take a dim view of drivers interfering with speed limiters and tachographs.
