NEW VEHICLE registrations continue to rise, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Registrations across the whole heavy truck sector are up by 29.7% for the year to date, and 19.9% up on the rolling year (to May).

“May’s van and truck registration totals showed sustained confidence in the CV market,” says SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt. “Heavy trucks, led by artics, demonstrated again the most robust growth in the month.” DAF, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz led the way for new registrations over six tonnes in May, recording 676, 391 and 356 units respectively. While Scania’s market share continues to fall, down from 15.6% in May 2010 to 12.4% this year, MAN registrations increased by 203%, up from just 96 to 291 units in May 2011.
