• North Western Deputy Licensing Authority John Levin has reserved decision on a bid by Transport Development Group to operate from the former RAF station at Burtonwood, Warrington, following bitter opposition from the local authority and residents. TDG is using the base under interim authority and applied to operate 60 vehicles and 100 trailers from the site.For TDG, Michael Whiteford said it was a 24-hour operation. Residents said the use of the site had was severely disturbing them. They complained about noise from the diesel engines, trailer coupling and airbrakes. Burtonwood Road was a country lane and one vehicle had to mount the pavement to pass another. Philip Woods, council environmental protection officer, said 36 vehicles were operated, if this was increased by 24 the impact on the residents would be 'doubled.
