• Urea, a naturally occurring chemical commonly used as a fertiliser feedstock, is the subject of most research as the SCRT's reagent. Johnson Matthey says a 32% solution of urea in water is easily injected into the exhaust stream and reac breaks down into the ammonia required to reduce the NOx.
This would mean that trucks would have to have a separate tank for the solution, and urea filling points would need to be provided on forecourts next to diesel and petrol pumps.
