the Lucrative contract to supply the UK armed forces with 10,000 front-line cargo, recovery and tanker trucks.
The firm is part of a consortium that includes US military vehicle specialist Stewart and Stevenson and the British Multidrive and Lex Multipart organisations.
LDV built the cabs for the Leyland T244 military truck be tween 1987 and 1995. If the consortium's bid is successful LDV will build the smaller Multidrivedesigned 6-15-tonne models at its Drews Lane, Birmingham plant.
A decision on the winner from five consortia invited to tender will be made later in the year. The vehicles will feature the low-profile "stealth" cab, pictured, with the driveiine likely to be a Caterpillar and Allison combination.
