• Hundreds of crates of Holsten Pils fell onto the road near the A40 at Greenford, West London last Friday morning after the straps on a curtainSider failed on a busy junction.
The road was closed by police for five hours after the truck shed its load on a corner. The driver was uninjured.
"It was very lucky no cars were overtaking at the time," said an onlooker. It's quite a small dual carriageway so it could have beer far worse."
The Environmental Health department became concerned for the local wildlife when beer from the broken bottles started flooding into drains and a nearby river.
A JCB was eventually called in to help remove the remaining debris.
At least 30 vehicles were held up by the spillage for five hours, as recovery took place.
