• The Transport Select Committee's key discussion of effective enforcement of road transport law has been postponed because the committee is too busy with other subjects. Airport and ferry issues will keep transport law of the cornmiltee's agenda until March.
The postponement means that witnesses including top Vehicle Inspectorate staff have gained a six-month reprieve before having to defend their frequently criticised record before the all-party group of 11 MPs, Labour MP Gwyneth Dunwoody, who is on the committee, is particularly keen for enforcement to be discussed.
The report produced by the MPs will heighten public awareness surrounding enforcement and will be studied by the Department of Transport, which should respond to it within two months.
