I am mystified by Lex product manager Ian Yates contrasting "the attention given to cars and vans" with the fact that "security features are almost irrelevant for vans" (CM 2-8 November).
A little bit of research by Let into products from companies other than Ford would show that many vans today offer security equipment comparable to many cars.
Renault, for example, fits as standard visible VIN plates, remote control central locking and Thatcham-standard engine immobilisers to its whole range of Clio, Kangoo and Master Vans—the same as its cars— as well as offering the option of a Category 1 security alarm system and full steel bulkhead across the range.
In addition, Clio and Kangoo Vans offer RAID—the Renault Anti Intruder Device which automatically locks all the velicle's doors once it moves off, preventing access from unwanted hands while sat in traffic.
