• North Eastern Traffic Commissioner Keith Waterworth is to crack down on operators who regularly park their trucks illegally.
"I am not prepared to tolerate those operators who allow lorries to be parked on a regular basis, indiscriminately, around our region's roads away from approved operating centres," he warns.
Last week Waterworth called five operators to a Manchester public inquiry for not using their authorised operating centres to park their vehicles overnight. The Tc said he has to consider the road safety
aspects of operating centres.
He revoked the licence held by Robert Dunn of Wigan; Russell Trucking of Runcorn had its licence suspended until a further hearing. K Roberts Transport of Caernarfon was given a written warning and DP Morfin of Derby had its licence curtailed. No action was taken against Lutherking Transport of Manchester.
Waterworth adds that he has to consider "whether using land for heavy vehicle parking will have an adverse environmental impact on residents' properties caused by visual intrusion, noise or smell".
