MERSEYSIDE POLICE have smashed a gang of truck hijackers after a raid on a warehouse led to the discovery of ilm-worth of stolen goods and the arrest of eight men.
Police seized eight trucks stolen from around the UK containing electrical goods, foodstuffs and nonprescription drugs: one of them was taken in Kirkdale when three men attacked its Romanian driver.
Forensic examinations are being carried out at the premises in Stone Street, Vauxhall and enquiries have begun to trace the owners of the vehicles.
The men, aged between 19 and 73, have been hailed pending further enquiries Superintendent Alan Cooper says: "This is the successful conclusion of an operation aimed at combating high-value lorry theft throughout the North-West. Our investigation is at an early stage and we will be looking for assistance from our colleagues in other forces."
