Fagan & Whalley's fleet engineer Stephen Whittaker (pictured) says: it's probably just over 50% of trucks that we buy second-hand. We buy some trucks from the ads in Commercial Motor."
Whittaker and his team of 11 get the trucks ready for the paint shop, but the painting and the new curtains are done externally. "But we refurbish everything mechanical ourselves."
He adds: "With the size of the fleet, we have a rolling system for maintenance and a defect reporting system. If the driver is away, we will decide whether the job has to be done out on the road or whether we can get them back. If they need repairing out on the road we work with Scania and ATS."
