SUMMER 2008 saw a moderate growth in retail sales volume outside the food market, according to Government statistics.
National Statistics Online shows a 1.2% increase in volume sales overall, with the big winners being shoes, textiles and clothes — up 4.1%. Shops selling predominantly food, however, suffered a 0.2% drop.
Total sales volume figures for the three months up to August are encouraging, with a 2.5% increase over the same period last year.
