STONEFIELD Developments of Cumnock near Kilmarnock is to produce a new range of 4 x 4 and 6 x 4 wheel drive vehicles with the backing of the Scottish Development Agency. With a payload of between PA and 3 tons, the new vehicle is fitted with an FF interlock transmission which prevents individual wheel spinning up independently. Already the order book is in a healthy condition with over 400 overseas orders.
Full production is planned to start early in 1978 with a first year production of 500 units, rising to around 3,000 by 1981.
Various body options will be available mounted on a space frame chassis.
Following extensive testing• in all types of adverse conditions, the manufacturers are confident that the new range will offer stiff competition to foreign imports like the new Volvo C300 and the Mercedes Unimog.
