Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Whenever you take one of your vehicles off the road, it stops earning you money. Now, at last, there is one way in which you can cut down on this idle time. Castrol announce a new versatile range of oils called Deusol RX Super.

Quite rightly we're exceptionally proud of it.

We should be. Deusol RX Super allows both an extended drain period and has a far longer working life.

Recently some tests have been concluded using turbo charged diesels. The graph below shows what happened after 70,000 miles without an oil change.

See what we mean? Even after this incredible distance Deusol still has a very high total base number. In successive tests, not once did the total base number drop below 8. This is how far our additive technology has progressed.

If you would like visible proof of what happened inside the test Scam take a look at its pistons. Remember that turbo charged engines operate at high temperature, nevertheless there was no ring sticking, bearing corrosion or varnish accumulation. In fact, because the oil remained in such good condition the pistons have hardly been touched.

There have been plenty of other tests on Deusol RX Super. For instance RX Super reduces to a minimum cam and tappet wear—particularly important in petrol engines.

Deusol RX Super has also been checked to see how well it suspends combustion soot. See what happened when we deliberately generated dirt build-up in the Perkins test. It took ages before the amount of combustion soot in suspension started to affect the viscosity level. No wonder Deusol RX Super allows such an extended oil drain period and further mileage without sludging.

And that still applies, even if you have coolant and antifreeze contamination.

We know. We added glycol to Deusol in another test just to make sure.

This all adds up to the fact that Deusol RX Super is so versatile that it's equally at home in a stop/start cold running petrol engine as it is in a highly stressed turbo charged diesel.

Deusol RX Super has many other fans besides ourselves and exceeds the requirements of: U.S. Army Ordnance Specifications MIL-L-2104C and MIL-L-46152.

Ford SM-2C-1017A, ESE-M2C-1004A, ESE-M2C-101C, SSM -2C-9001-AA, SPM-2C-9104A, ESE-M2C-87a/88a, and Volvo B20 and BLS-01-02 There's also General Motors GM 6136M and GM 6041M and API service classifications SE-CD.

And Deusol RX Super has also met with approval for all Caterpillar civil engineering plant.

It comes in a complete range. A unique 15W/40 multigrade and monogrades SAE 10, 20 and 30. Deusol RX Super is suitable for all vehicles including the Detroit Diesel.

We suggest you find out more about it. Either direct from Castrol, Swindon, or from our representative.

Your time will be well spent.

In fact, because of the drain time you'll save later, maybe we should say your time will be well invested. bove the driver's head and I oubt if many people would aturally look there to check. True, there are buzzers to am n of low air-pressure, but I ould have thought this partiular instrument could have een better sited. A single stalk

o the right of the steering olumn not only controls the ndicators but incorporates eadlamp-flash and dip and the pers which have an intern-iitent wipe facility.

Mercedes has also fitted a loor-mounted washer control hich runs the wipers for three weeps, automatically. I found his more of a nuisance than a oon, as I was continually ouching it inadvertently with y heel.

Other controls that are poorly laced and, in fact, are in a osition which could be dange ous, are the heater slides. They re right on the other side of the ab, well out of reach of the river. I could' visualise a otential accident situation ccurring if the driver attempted o regulate the temperature on he move.

Sensible material

In all other respects, though, he cab is a nice place to work, vith comfortable seating and jood driving position. Hardvearing rubber mats are used or the floor covering — a iensible material for on-site vork.

With typical German thoughtulness the Mercedes people lave provided an air point, with ts own reservoir, to take a tyre nflator. The square headlamps, Ire hinged to allow easy bulb eplacement.

A large cover in the cab facia, )oking rather like the glove box d, reveals a multitude of fuses nd several other electrical omponents — making life a lot asier for the mechanic working n an electrical fault in the rain. he hydraulically operated cab It mechanism brings the Merc ab to an over-centre point; then gently tilts to its maximum ngle. This gives tremendous ccessibility to the power unit.

Daily checks of fluid levels 3n be made through openings the front of the cab when the rine is unlatched.

oUgh workhorse

Driving the 2419K for nearly 00 miles on our test route and work on-site, I came to like the ?hide very much indeed: )mfortable, well equipped and tough workhorse.

If only Mercedes can improve e braking and tidy up the

:tails, then it has a very worthy I n t en de r for the six-wheeler arket,
