Where's the gearstick? And what do I do? These are probably the first questions any rookie driver climbing into the Stralis will ask, and not without reason. This truck is the only one we tested which is fully automated. The gearstick has been replaced by a paddle with buttons on either side to select auto or, if you want a bit more control, you can opt for semi-automatic.
Once you understand how the gears work, however, this is probably the easiest truck to drive that we've encountered: point-and-go sums it up well. Running in auto removes much of the stress of debating what gear you're in and wondering whether you'll miss a change on a steep ascent, leaving you free to concentrate on driving safely and negotiating tricky routes. In short, there's not much that can go wrong once you're in this truck, Its a quiet and efficient operator, complete with cruise control and an efficient engine brake.
The Stralis driver's environment is good, too. There's loads of room for your kit, and the layout is such that you can wait for your paperwork in comfort, Our biggest complaint was the awful sound of the indicator alert it's enough to put you off indicating aitogether!
