WHEN William Harper, Ltd., LiverYY pool hauliers, dispensed with the services of a director, Mr. R. G. Harper, last year, they also lost another director —Mr. J. Mylrea resigned. In company with 14 members of the company's staff, the two men set up as dock clearance and forwarding agents in the city, and last month they acquired a special A-licence vehicle.
This story was told at Liverpool, on Tuesday, when Harper and Mylrea, Ltd., asked for a new B licence to acquire two vehicles for "general goods, excluding coal and household removals, within 10 miles." They faced no opposition.
Mr. H. D. Mace, for the Company, said William Harper, Ltd., had done dock haulage since 1860 and both Mr. Harper and Mr. Mylrea were on the board until last year. They had spent all their working lives dealing with dock traffic and when they set up their own company they soon acquired a substantial business with hired haulage.
The application was supported by Thompson arid Charnock, Ltd., grain importers. Mr. J. B. Charnock, a director, said Harper and Mylrea were handling grain formerly carried under C licence. Dock clearance work had also been turned over to them.
Mr. C. Duncan, acting North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, said the application was a substantial one by a newcomer, but it was unopposed and therewas evidence of need so the two vehicles would be granted.
