Schools' Meals
TEN new delivery vans are being placed in service with the London County Council's school meals service, to replace 10 of the 95 existing vehicles 'already in use: The new vans, which are based on Morris LD.2 forward-control 30-cwt. petrol-engined chassis, have been designed by the supplies department of the L.C.C., and the bodies have been built by Cunard Commercial Bodybuilding Co., Ltd., Cunard Works,. Abbeydale Road, Wembley. A feature of the bodywork is that the vehicles have been. laid out for three-way loading to speed up dispatch and. delivery:
• The Cunard bodywork consists of aluminium panels attached to timber framing members, and Permadec is used for the flooring, this material being a. resin-impregnated plywood embossed with a tread pattern.. The material is rot-proof and water-proof, and therefore is suitable for this type of service where the bodies' interiors 'are scrubbed' out twice daily.
Three Normand light-alloy' 'roller shutters are fitted, there being a full-width one at the rear and a shutter in each side of the body immediately behind the cab. These two side shutters give access tO food containers in the forward part of the body shelving.
The standard Morris front-end assembly has been retained for the cab, but hinged doors.' are fitted. There is a full-height bulkhead at the rear 'of the cab to which is attached a passenger seat. A folding step is fitted at the rear of the body and the wheel boxes are squared to provide additional stowage space. Lashing loops are fitted in the body to secure the food bins.
