THE Ministry of Supply draws the ' attention of vehicle users to the fact that there are six brands of commercial anti-freeze approved under the Control of Engine, etc., Anti-freeze (No. 1) Order, 1942, which may be purchased without 'restriction. Licences to supply have been granted to the following concernA, subject to the necessary raw materials being available:—Auto Vaporisers, Ltd., Froidene Works, New Road, Lymm, Nt. Wariington; Surridge's Patents, Ltd., New Works, Croydon Road, Elmers End, Beckenham, Kent; William. Clark (Spare Parts), Ltd., Nobby House, Elgin Avenue, London, W.9; Baco Motor Products, Abbey Manufacturing Estate, Alperton, Middlesex; Wingard (M.A.), • Ltd., Eugene Works, Edgware Road„ West Hendon, London, N.W.9; County Chemico Co., Ltd., Chemical Works, Shirley, Birmingham.
It is pointed out that these solutions must be regarded as war-time substiteites for materials in short supply. Compared with pre-war mixtures, they will be found to give a reduced measure of protection (down to 20 degrees of frost). They may also have a slightly corrosive action on solder, mild steel, aluminium and aluminium alloys. This action, whilst being greater than that of tap water, is not, however, sufficiently severe to affect the efficient running of vehicles if the producers' instructions be complied with.
