British extendible gets EEC blessing

KING TRAILER'S new stepframe trailer, TSE40/3, is the first UK-built extendible to receive type approval for EEC operation.
The trailer, rated for payloads up to 46 tonnes for UK operation, will be able to operate as a "special use" trailer throughout the EEC and provides a British alternative to Dutch and German models which hitherto have satisfied the growing demand for fully approved trailers of this type.
The specification includes a self-tracking rear axle to meet the turning circle requirements of the West German Traffic Regulations, with the trailer fully extended at 17.5m (57ft 5in).
Closed, the trailer measures a more conventional 12m (39ft 41/2in) overall, and low-profile tyres give a main check height of 0.76m (29.9in).
Two TSE40/3 extendibles have been sold to Planthaul/tif Bedford for international transportation of abnormal loads. UK payload capacities at 12,40 and 62mph are 46, 38.5 and 35.1 tonnes respectively.
